"OC Barreling or The Stinging Humiliation..."  Arrived at little after 6:30am to meet Mike M, Chris S, and Emile to carpool down to OC. Took a look at 37th street at what looked like super clean barreling lefts and rights in the chest range with occasional smoking head sets. Paddle out was tough with the rip and drift both working against you (or me anyway, got rejected once). Once out there it was great, sunny, wind out of the West not to much, set waves, and I totally sucked. Got exactly 0 rides, a lot of drops to stuffings, flushings, and washings. The other guys looked to be having a better time of it though fortunately. After a couple of hours the tide started to drop and wind pick up leading to a worsening of conditions. Mike and I ventured back up to reho to check it but nothing was going on there. Saw Chet on the way out and checked out the new racks and boardroom, very nice!  Where were the paipos?

See Mitchell's pics and report from 48th street today, below.

Mitchell's Report from 48th St, "Here are six from about 7:30 this morning at 48th. To me, these waves were about
as good as it gets. Add 40 degrees to the water temp and you've got perfection. These six foot boards aren't cutting it in all this rubber."

Mike McDowell's Report and Pictures.  Conditions were pretty and the weather was great.  As Paul said, it was a rough paddle out and the conditions worsened as the wind picked up like with the last swell.  It lasted for a while though and I scored a number of waves on the new Nezzy.  Really got the feel of the board in the fairly large fast waves and pulled off a real nice cut back.  Even got a couple waves to the beach and witnessed a couple good rides from the other guys.  Attached are some quick photos I took.

Emile's (julienssurfingdaddy) Report:

How to not get all the waves you should:
   1) only surf twice a year
   2) don't work out your upper body
   3) eat
   4) get an office job
   5) move away from the beach
   6) go out in 34 degree water

While I have retained the ability to see exactly where I want to be
on a wave, I have adhered much too closely to items 1-5 of the above
formula.  So, I didn't get all the waves I think I should have.

Nonetheless, I am stoked just to have been in the presence of a head-
high barrel yesterday, despite my inability to connect at a deeper
level like I used to.

Chris, Mike and Paul, great to meet you guys, I hope to get good
waves with you again soon.

Cheers,
Emile

Postscript. The regrets were numerous and pitiful with poor souls stuck at work duty or fearful of the cold and wind.
