KC Filer Makes A Splash: Got to Assateague Island (federal park - north parking lot) at about 0820. There was a light sideshorebreeze that tended to be slight offshore. The waves waist to chest on the outer sandbars, but fairly short period. That made getting outside quite a bit harder than it looked - it seemed like there was one wave after the next, and every so ofter one came through with some surprising punch. Btw, I was in a 3/2 with boots but no gloves and no hood and I was comfortable. As for me, I am ashamed to report that I saw rideable waves, but I couldn't seem to get hooked up. I got some pitiful knee rides on reform on the inside. Some guys arrived around 1000 with fun shapes and I saw them catch a few. They also worked hard to get outside. I headed home after a couple hours. |
