The Chris Smith Report for Saturday:  Well I just had to do it, woke up way too early and drove on down to Assateague.  I arrived just as the sun was breaking the surface and the waves were a bit small, waist high but nice shape coming from the south.  I went for it and was able to get about an hour of fun before the wind took its toll and things switched to the NE.  It started to get real mixed up and I decided to bag it.  It has reorganized and is pretty steady coming in from the NE now.  I am on the fence about going on Sunday, so if anybody is interested drop me a line.

The Paul Report, Saturday:  I checked all the way from rehobeth, bethany, fenwick, O.C. and it was uniformly awful from 9am to 3pm when I went home. Uggh. Blown-out disorganized wind chop.
The Mark Vermillion Report, Saturday: We had a similar experience at the Chinco end of Assateague. I awoke in the
campsite before dawn because the van was rocking from the wind. I knew it was a bad sign. I was right. What a mess. Tried to salvage the day by catching some fish, but the current was so strong that our lines were pushed S and washed up on the beach within about 30 seconds. If you walked S with the current, you could keep up with the drift, but that's no way to fish.

Oh well. Next week.

Snake says, "You Need To Know Where To Look"  Drove down very early Sat morning to be greeted by increasing wind
chop.  About the only beach rideable with any wind protection was Bethany "secret" street.  However, got in the water around 6:30 am and by around 8:00 it was a mess.  Aaron Powell's 21st birthday party started at noon so I spent a couple of hours visiting around town, then back to Bethany for the party.  I've known Jack and Aaron for many years and their house is where I usually stay most weekends.  Aaron is currently the top ranked professional surfer from Delaware and often shows up with his dad at my luau's.  Started celebrating a noon when all of a sudden it was 5pm and the wind shifted and started to drop.  A quick run to secret street showed super head high peaks, with easy catchable lefts and longer rights.  The word was getting out quickly though as within a half hour it seemed everyone and his brother was out.  Luckily the jetties create breaks over a couple of blocks so there is still plenty of takeoff spots.  Surfed until just before dark, then back for a short nap.  Aaron works at a restaurant on Sat from 5 - 10pm and a few of us planned to lift a few glasses with him at the bar after work.  Later on we got back to his place, watched a surf movie and crashed.  About the only break rideable on Sunday morning was the Cove at sunup.  The tide was high
but the wind direction was just right to hold the faces on the rights from turning to junk.  I didn't feel all that great but went out for
about an hour just to wake up.  I got home around noon with a sore back but a fun weekend.
The KC Filer Report:  I checked out Assateague at 0930 Saturday, and it was not rideable.  A long trip on a thin hope.  Checked out 34th street in town -- no better.  Swung up to IRI North -- I don't even know why I look there anymore. That place looks totally ruined.

On the plus side, I tossed the long board in the in river out back and got in a good 25 - 30 minute paddling session down to the point and back.  My shoulders were definitely out of shape.

The Chris Smith Report for Sunday:  Well, I had to do it by myself again, arrived predawn at Assateague to find small close outs and so the trek north started.  8th street wasn't closing out so I just stayed there and got in 2.5 hours of choppy but rideable surf.  Virtually no drift for the first hour, then the wind started to pick up and the drifting started. There was a nice overhead wave that cruised through that I only successfully rode one time but the waist to chest stuff was fairly fun.  The surf is building a bit but the chop is heavy enough some serious offshore would be required to glass this off, good luck if you go on Monday.  I am negotiating a contract most of the day, so I will not be able to attend.

Now for the bad news, Saturday water temp was 50 and this morning 49.
