The Chris Smith Firecracker Day Report:
Brian Stringer and I left at a ridiculous hour to catch low tide and also beat out the wind.  We arrived at Gordons Pond and gave Doug Rhodes a call to let him know they are opening the gate early now and he said he was already on the way.  One other person, a DE local named Chris that Doug knew, was already in the water when we arrived in the waist to chest high super clean waves.  He was getting some really nice rides off the groin on his 8' Channin.  We all got some nice rides before the crowds started showing up, in more ways than one (jellyfish were thick with the incoming tide) at about 7:30.

Doug and Brian wisely chose to just move up the beach a bit and were still scoring some nice waves as I fought for mine.  Eventually, after a nice race down the line I decided to join them and we all were picking up some nice rides, despite getting stung quite often by the jellyfish.

Paul also showed up with the crowd and joined up with Doug and Brian for some nice waves before he had to pack it in due to jellyfish stings.  Shortly after Paul left the crowd started to thin and so did the jellyfish.

With the full tide the waves became much dumpier and Brian and I decided to bag it after a 5.5 hour session.  Tired but with big smiles on our faces we began our trek home, which included a trip down to OC (bad idea).  Made it back home 14 hours after I left this morning and took a nap before unloading the car.

Russ, hopefully you got in the water somewhere.

Hopefully everyone had a good 4th of July.

Local DE surfer Chris already out in the clean waves when we got there

Russ Canard Reports: Friday-waves were great around 4:30 right out in front of EOM; waist to an ocassional mid chest high peeler that would take you about a block long- was out until about dusk and had a great time - Saturday- a bit smaller but still very fun did not make any a.m. sessions but found myself very happy with the afternoon delicious waves. Both days perfect for longboarding, also nobody out so no crowds or weaving. I think that the place to be is Dewey right now - there is a huge sandbar right in front of my house (West St and St.Louis) - you have to check it out. Jellies were out in full force though.
