banging down the road to last September's GuidoPalooza and during several treks to the Shore. Kirk also turned us on to the concert and picked up some tickets. If you're looking for a "critic's review" of the two bands you can delete this email or hit the "back" button on your browser right now. We converged upon Fletcher's at around 9pm. Dan and I paced the sidewalks for a few minutes outside of Fletcher's, probably under some delusion that a couple of hunky chunky 25 year olds would pick us up. Then around the corner strides Pat Hoge. We decide to duck into the lower half of Fletcher's while we await the holder of our tickets, Kirk, who has been delayed while his ultra-cute wife Amy arranges her hair just right. Fletcher's is a combo bar, nightclub concert hall. Downstairs is your typical lounge/pub with billiard tables and games, nice little lounging area in the bar proper. We kick back and have a couple of rounds while our mates trickle in. Upstairs is the "concert hall," featuring a small stage at one end and a small bar at the other, and a few lounging seats and tables scattered towards the rear. The main concert "standing hall" is probably about 20 feet wide and 30 feet deep, but I could be off my 10 feet or so. The opening act, "The 45s,"
covered several rock 'n roll tunes and several of their own. The music
was an up tempo and energized combo of The Ramones and Lynard Skynard (well,
they had that southern sound). One of the best opening acts that I have
seen in my limited concert exposure this year. The 45s provided a kick-ass
bodyboarding/shortboarding opening act for the
Los Straightjackets played some very smooth surf sounds covering several of their regular cuts along with several of their new Christmas Holiday tunes. The Los were accompanied by the sexy and fun Go-Go dancing act of "The World Famous Pontani Sisters" for several series and Christmas outfits. I must have enjoyed myself because by the end of the show I was standing only 4 deep from the stage. Many thanks to Chet for the several rounds of beer he dosed me with before ducking out quickly at the end of the show. http://www.straitjackets.com/

I went to the LS show in Falls Church last night. It was a lot of fun. They played a mix of their songs and re-worked-for-instrumental Christmas songs. "The Little Drummer Boy" was a standout. Go see 'em tonight at Fletchers and enjoy! Curtis
