Board of Director Meeting
Date of Event: January tba (Wednesday)
Time: 7:30pm

Membership involvement: 9:30pm (or at the conclusion of the

It is not a social event, due to the serious nature of business. The
focus of this meeting will be board officer transition business. The
general membership is invited to show up after Club business and the

the inner workings of the Board and provides an additional social venue.

Location: TBD (but if it is on Carver's Deck then click Directions on the SurfASC Forum)
General Membership Involvement: Required, guests are encouraged. This is
an opportunity for members to meet each other, listen to the campaign
speeches of Board nominees and to poke fun at surfers being way too
serious. Discussions about the Club’s direction tend to be laced with
stories about the great hurricane swell from the preceding week.
Remembering the issues provided by the candidates and wondering about
the number of pints consumed, is a common complaint on the following
morning. Come join in on the fun, but be sure and remember your speech
and campaign promises.
ASC Spring Fling Weekend (Slumber Party, Beach Sweep and Luau)
Date of Event: May 9-11, 2008 or May 16-18, 2008 (Friday through Sunday)

Friday and proceed to a Friday night Legends Night Buffet (free food!)
at the Castle in the Sand (37th St.). Saturday is the official contest
day (Sunday is the rain date) and Sunday morning is a free-surf. There
is usually a Saturday night OC Surfrider Luau or an ASC potluck dinner.

snacks, and drinks with plenty to share. This
is another great weekend at the beach for the ASC. Everyone is invited to come learn about surfing and the ASC.
Surfrider Clean Water Paddleout
Date of Event: September 6, 2008 (Saturday)
Time: 10:00am
Location: Ocean City Pier You know that you
will be at the beach anyway. Why not head down to the pier and make a
public statement about our local beach? It should be a great day, since
3 of the Delmarva SF chapters have combined for this event. Add to the
mix, the support of the 62nd Street Longboarders, City of Ocean City
and our favorite folks at 10am during the summer, the OC Beach Patrol.
Even the ASC is an active partner for the event. We will need to reach
deep into the membership for this one, since many folks will be away at
Guido Palooza and on vacation. Come on down and get wet. Wear your ASC
hats and lets own the break. Bring anything that you want to paddle. I
bet money that you won't beat BWD on his Eaton Paddleboard. Bring the
Wife and kids to cheer you on and wipe your brow when you finish. Get
the kids old enough involved in the paddle. It could be a great
opportunity to spend the day with the family and wash the dust off of
your board. Staying at home and watching the boob tube is not an
option. Cyber surfing will not cut it either. Get up and get down to
the beach with us on September 9th.
This
event is being hosted by the Surfrider Foundation's Ocean City Chapter
in co-ordination with the Capitol and Delaware Chapters, and with the
support of the MD ESA, Ocean City Beach Patrol, the 62nd Street
Longboard Club and the Annapolis Surf Club. Volunteers are needed at 8:30am!

DelMarVa Surfari
Date of Event: September 28-30, 2007 (Friday-Sunday) TBD Location: TBD, but likely Assateague National Seashore - Beachside Group Campsite or Herring Point, Delaware Assateague
is wonderful in the Fall. Water is pleasant, air is crisp but not
frosty. No bugs. Hurricane swell and early NE'r swell both happen about
this time of the year. Pleasant camping and pleasant (sometimes
fabulous!) surfing. Contact Paul Moos for more information.
March of Dimes Surf Contest

This will be ASC's first time participating in this fun-oriented surf
contest that raise funds for the March of Dimes. There are five contest
divisions: (1) Team surf - The entire team surfs together; (2) Open
finless - sure you surf good with fins, lets see you try without them;
(3) Ripping Reps - short boards only and you must be a surf rep to
enter; (4) Stand up paddle (beach boy) - Surfers use oars to paddle
themselves into waves; and (5) Best Trick (open) - ride whatever board
you want - the surfer who does the most amazing maneuver wins. ASC's
Austin Saunders, owner of Austin Surfboards, is a sponsor. This could
be a weekend long surfari.
Nominations for the 2008 Officers and Board Members
Date of Event: October 4-18, 2008
Location: Internet-based nomination This
is the period to step up and help run the ASC. Nominate yourself,
your friend or the member that you see supporting the Club on an on-going basis. The
officer and board member descriptions are posted in the nominations forum.
The primary requirement for service is an interest in promoting the
sport of surfing, protecting the environment and a commitment to do something for the Club. The success of the
Club is directly related to the dedication and involvement of its
members. The time commitment is minimal, but the mission is important.
Your vote helps direct our success and may prove beneficial to the next
generations surfing opportunities.

2008 Officers and Board Members Election
Date of Event: November 1, 2008 through November 15, 2008
Location: Internet-based voting
The voting is easy and the importance to the operation of the Club is
immense. Be sure and cast your vote for the candidates that offer the
best coordination, insight and management of your Club. It is the goal
of our organization to be leaders in the support and promotion of the
sport of surfing. That can only be accomplished by electing individuals
that have the skills required to promote the organization, while
providing for the goals of the membership. The functions that the Club
engages in have the additional requirement of being fun. Finding
candidates able to offer this service and electing them, is the only
true requirement for membership in the ASC.
Board Members' Transition Meeting
Date of Event: December 3, 2008 (Wednesday)
Time: 7:30pm
Location: TBD (maybe Fins Restaurant in Crofton) General
Membership involvement: Provide input to retiring and new board members
prior to the meeting. This event is a regularly scheduled business
meeting
that enables the Club to run a professional,
non-profit organization.
It is not a social event, due to the serious nature of business. The
focus of this meeting will be board officer transition business.
ASC Holiday Party
Date of Event: December 6 pr 13, 2008 (Saturday)
Time: TBD
Location: TBD, but maybe at TK Sharkey's (Located east of Annapolis Mall)
Address: 2072 Somerville Rd., Annapolis, MD 410-841-5599 [MAP]
Get into the holiday spirit and out of the cold water with the ASC. We
are starting off the festivities early this year. We invite everyone to
come and meet with folks that you may not be able to recognize for the
rest of the year, due to rubber suits. Have a few warm drinks, enjoy
the food and get festive. This is a great opportunity for the
membership to meet the new Board of Directors and make some suggestions for
upcoming events. This party marks the last formal Club event of the year and it
provides a great evening of surf story, family updates and joy for the
season. Bring a surf-starved friend and introduce them to the Club.
Behave yourselves though, because I have heard that he is making a list
and checking it twice.
